Market Town Healthchecks are a Countryside Agency initiative to enable communities to identify environmental and social strengths and weaknesses of their town and surrounding villages.
The Healthcheck process aims to:
• Allow residents to understand the current and future strengths and weaknesses within the town;
• Bring the residents of the town and surrounding villages together;
• Develop a properly researched and robust action plan which has widespread community support and is influential in securing funding from national, regional and local government investment programmes.
In 2005 ‘The Chipping Campden Community Partnership’ was formed with a steering group of local people with a variety of experience and skills.
We use a specially designed computer program which guides us through the worksheet questions in the four sections on Environment, Economy, Transport, Social & Community.
We are getting additional information from surrounding villages -
Blockley, Weston Subedge, Aston Subedge, Mickleton, Ebrington.
Our plans are to:
• Complete the worksheets by late summer 2006.
• Draw up a list of issues that need to be put to the community for their views.
• Hold a community event in the town in the autumn 2006, to demonstrate the information that we have collected and to invite people to give their views and prioritise the issues
• Take a roadshow to the villages.
We aim to publish the report by Summer 2007 with a vision for the future and an action plan for development.
